First week artwork.

Check out the first week's artwork from the IB Juniors and the Pre IB Sophomores:

Juniors did a quick drawing from observation exercise with charcoal.

In Pre IB Art 2 students created paper sculptures with heavy watercolor paper.  Their goal was to use repetition to create unity.

Yay incoming 9th grade!

Class of 2020, that just sounds nice!  It was great to see all of you there Wednesday night.  I know you heard a lot of information but don't worry or get overwhelmed.  You will be the 11th group of freshmen to come through our program and you will be just as successful as all those other classes.  Your IB teachers are here to help you through this program so if there is anything you didn't understand we will be here to answer your questions next year.  If you didn't get a chance to see the art presentation, I have embedded it below.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions.  I can't wait to see you in class next year :)

Printmaking and Radial Design

This lesson idea came from a former printmaking teacher and I now understand why he did this every year, the results are great.  The Pre IB Art 1 students learned some basic printmaking processes while creating these radial designs.  These artworks were created in three layers, requiring students to plan out complex compositions.  Craftsmanship was key in creating these artworks, starting with measuring the out the angles so that the pie shapes would fit perfectly.  Students also had to be extra careful that their foam plates printed clearly and ink only ended up where they wanted it.

Digital Artwork in the IB and AP Art classes

We have had greater access to the laptop cart this year, allowing the students to explore digital art media more.

This piece by IB senior Lee was created completely using computer software.  He uses a drawing tablet to create a sketch layer that he then works on top of to create a finished piece.

IB senior Jason has been working with digital media since last year.  He typically works first on his iPad with a stylus then exports that to Photoshop or Illustrator for additional editing.

This is the first completely digital artwork created by another IB senior, Samantha.  It is a logical extension of the work she was creating where she used a printed photograph then worked in traditional media around it.  In the following piece, Sam started with a photograph but then traced and colored it in the computer before adding in the background.

IB senior, Patricia, has also investigated many artists working with digital media, which have inspired the artwork she creates.

For a class assignment the Pre IB sophomores and AP Art students created digital collages using scanned objects.  This lesson taught them how to use a flatbed scanner, how to create new files in photoshop, working with layers, blending options, selecting and moving objects, as well as saving files for print output.
